So, say I need to have a wooden box constructed with attention to detail, finishing work, and all to my specs which would be something between a napkin sketch and an autocad file… where would I turn? I am doing some prototype work on the Griffin Powermate experience and I am starting to consider housings and, well, anything that will hide the many meters of cords. I took an I.D. class or two in college, so I get the gist of what I need, but I simply lack the space for power tools and don’t really want to risk embedding a block of wood into my chest because of a tablesaw accident. Are there places for needs like this? Cause I have tons of wants.

For maximum ‘not-leave-the-house’ power, you could try eMachineShop – they received a great writeup in the latest issue of Wired (the article is available online), though they sound a bit pricey.
In the newest Wired, there is an article about a custom fab place for one-offs. I know there are quite a few around.
Give you names, you say?
Hey, buddy — a lead is better than nothing.
Ha, Toby, too little too late. And I looked into them and it seems they want more than what I would be able to provide. I am looking for more along the lines of a grad student with access to the wood shop that is looking to make a few bucks, and make some suggestions along the way.
Cant beat student labor, especially if the student goes to a way overpriced college. Gotta pay for the weed somehow.
But thanks for the info guys… anyone else?
